Best wishes on your upcoming wedding!
Either island will be a great place to de-stress from your big day.
I just got back last week from 5 days in Curacao & 7 in Bonaire. I went with a group of friends. We stayed at Sunset Waters on Curacao & the Plaza in Bonaire. This was the first trip to either island for the entire group (7 divers, 3 non-divers).
I thought Sunset waters was very nice however their onsite dive shop relocated (or shut down). The resort manager, Jim, arranged with another dive shop for our tanks. Not having the onsite shop meant it was a bit inconvenient to have to take all our gear back to our rooms to rinse and clean. Jim said another operator was moving in and should be there by June.
We did two boat dives there - one off a zodiac raft. I liked rolling into the water - much more fun than the giant stride anyday.
There is more sea life on Bonaire but Curacao was ok. We didn't have the vis we expected on either island - the locals said it was because of unusually high winds. We did see a spotted eagle ray at Lagun beach dive site on Curacao.
We didn't rent a van on curacao until our 3rd day and it would have been nice to have it sooner since the resort is remote. They will take you to Willemstad but only leave & return twice a day and we didn't want to be limited to their schedule.
The staff at the resort were very friendly. I felt very comfortable there. It is a beautiful place. If you want to play mini golf bring your own golf balls - the resort's balls disappeared quickly! The casino wasn't open yet - the new owner is still working on getting a licence. I'm not much of a gabler so I didn't miss it.
The food at the resort was really good too! The ice cream is to die for.
Bonaire had the better diving. Toucan divers is a great outfit. Very efficient and helpful. All the dive masters were mellow but they didn't want us to go below 100ft. You have to give your depth on the roll sheet and I suspect some of our group lied about their depth. We did one boat dive a day and one shore dive. My favorite dives were the Salt pier & town pier (you have to have a dive master accompany you on the town pier). Tons of life to see. We didn't have any problem with theft but there were a lot of other divers around at most of the places we dove.
Happy diving!
