Can't really speak about Bonaire, but on a recent liveaboard to the Red Sea, I was debating taking my 21W can light. Ultimately I decided against it and just took a Heser Backup.
I was very glad I made the choice - daytime in the shallower water, the HIDs were still hard to see as the light levels were quite high and on the night dives, they were complete overkill (but very cool to look at when a team crested over some coral and you could see the beams scanning around!).
The Heser has a thin beam and was more than adequate for the task of night diving, providing a good daylight white and even managed to provide fill-in lighting for my buddy's photos
