I didn't know where else to post this "lost and found" post.
Here's my sob story.
We were diving in Bonaire last week 10/4 - 11. On Friday, October 10th, what should have been our last dive of the vacation, my fiancé lost her engagement ring after about 20 minutes into the dive. She knew approximately where she lost it so we briefly searched until we ran out of bottom time. We went back to the resort to get more bottles and after a brief surface interval the four of us went back to the search area. Two of our group left after running out of bottom time, but my fiancé and I continued to search. After watching the clock tick up quickly for our decompression stop, we had to abort the search with a 15 minute stop at 10-15'.
I'm still paying for the ring and can't run out and replace it right away. So here's the favor I ask of anybody heading to Bonaire. Please dive the Andrea II and go left. She lost it at about 80'. I know it's a long-shot and makes finding a needle in a haystack seem easy but $4000 doesn't come easy.
thx

Sorry to hear about the loss. My wife losing her engagement ring (and/or wedding rings) is the main reason we usually leave our rings at home or in the resort safe before we go diving.

I'm not going to Bonaire anytime soon but you could make another post on the www.bonairetalk.com. This is a website entirely for Bonaire. The people on that board are just as nice as here, so I would give that a shot as well. There are quite a few people who live on Bonaire and watch the website so you may have better luck finding someone since it is entirely Bonaire.

I know the lady wants to wear the ring all the time but sports are really a bad time. Live, learn, pay the tuition.

Any insurance? Trip insurance? Home Owners? Use a credit card to buy the ring?

Good luck... don

Sorry to hear about the loss. At least it was "just a ring" and not a life.

Some advice for new divers reading this thread: cold water makes your fingers shrink. It is much easier for your rings to slip off at 80' than on dry land. After my wife almost lost her wedding ring when pulling off her glove (she never dove with her engagement ring), we decided to get cheap silver rings for dive trips and backpacking in places where expensive jewelry is more at risk. We even had a priest bless the rings.

Good luck with the treasure hunt and I hope it gets returned.

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss.

If you have homerowner's or renter's insurance, or if your fiance does, you should report this loss to your carrier. It is possible that it might be covered.

One other thought. If you purchased the ring on a credit card, check to see if the issuer provides some form of loss protection for purchases.

Good luck.

Yup, you don't have to tell me, I always tell her to please leave the ring in the room. One of the things I hate saying is "I told you so." I don't know if she has any concept of what those things cost. It was easily her single most expensive possesion. I'm still pretty bitter about it and with my present state of mind, it's not going to be replaced. When I bought it, I put myself financially out there and now I've got a house I need to save for. I'm hoping it gets found, that's pretty much the only thing that will save my pissy mood.

Attention!
This is important in the extreme.
Do not say "I told you so."
Trust me on this. :)
Love,
Uncle E.
