Funny, there's nothing on the Dutch news about this.

Sometimes it takes some time to get overseas....but it is a done deal....

Going to the $ is the best thing for the local economy as well as the tourists from both the US and Europe.:victory:

The recommendation was made and the island council approved it Tuesday afternoon, and we were told on Wednesday morning. Minister El Hage did an local TV interview right after his speech...

As said before this might take a few years.

Bonaire's official currency will be the US dollar. Liz is correct & from what I understand this is a "done deal". I don't know of anyone who thinks this was a poor choice. Personally I think it's excellent. Bonaire will receive the current purchasing power of the Euro which is approximately 50% of her tourist trade and will also open itself up to the US market since services & products will be priced in greenbacks.

Although the official transition to Holland has been delayed somewhat, from what I understand changes will start to be implemented behind the scenes in Dec. The greenback may be the official currency on Bonaire sooner then we think.
