I'm considering renting a camera on Bonaire instead of my local shop(s). Any recommendations on rental places in Bonaire or otherwise tips on renting in Bonaire?

Do yourself a HUGE favor and take a 1/2 day photo course with Tim at Fish Eye Photo (located at Den Laman/near Sand Dollar). Then rent the camera/strobe that you did the course with and you'll be absolutely amazed at the quality of your photos!!
Even if you don't take a photo course, Tim at Fish Eye is a great guy to rent a rig from. He has everything from a basic point and shoot/strobe combo all the way to a big DSLR/dual strobe combo.
