I have tried emailing them Frank and so has my buddy; so far no response.
I would call but am a bit concerned about the cost of it. I'm sure they will email back soon.

I have actually now become interested in Golden Reef Inn. Everybody has great things to say about Liz & Ed. Plus I like that she is involved and helpful on this site without making everyone feel like they have to book with her. :)

Unless it has recently changed, WD Huts does not have hot water. I honestly did not find it a problem when we stayed there several years ago. What you have to understand is the water pipes on Bonaire are only a few inches below grade and the ground gets very warm so "cold" water is still pretty warm....a guess but it's at least 85-90 deg most of the time.

For clean, reasonable accomidations GRI is a good choice. Even if you choose not the stay there, drop by and check out the place for your next trip....If your like most, you will be talking about planning it before mid week.

I would encourage you to do a search on Boniare on this board. Over the years lots of us have posted a huge amount of information on almost any and everything you could want or need to know. I know I have posted a lot of shore diving tips, money tips and local customs.

We stayed at GRI in june it was a great little place and Liz and Ed are great as you have read before. Herman is right about the water it is usually very comfortable without a heater for a shower. If you stay with Liz you'll be using WannaDive for the Dive Op and they are first class all the way. Can't wait till i get to go back in a couple years.

Thanks again everyone for all the good info.

Just wanted to tell you that Wanna Dive Hut has confirmed that they do NOT have running hot water in the rooms. ---"The rooms don't have running hot water, but the water is not cold. For a hot shower you can use the public hot shower as well."----

I'm am not saying that hot water is necessary or that the Wanna Dive Huts are not a wonderful place to say. I am simply passing on the information to anyone who might be searching for it as I was. I hear nothing but goods things about their operation.

All that being said...It would seem like that is something that should be mentioned on their website. From a traveler's standpoint, I normally wouldn't even think to ask that question while booking accommodations in a confirmed, popular resort/holiday area.

I'm glad I found out beforehand on Scubaboard.

As a side note, Wannadivebonaire (dive op) and Wannadivehuts (place to stay) are owned by the same guys and are obvioulsy closely tied together but you can use one or the other as you choose.

I am glad finding out these little tidbits on SB too. I have a buddy to whom occasional hot showers is a must. Den Laman had hot water, never seemed to run out either. Bonaire seemed great for water pressure too.

You are very right about "the things one does not even think to ask". If you travel a lot you start picking on these but sometimes it's hard. I am not yet an experienced scuba traveller, and I nearly missed one thing - so here goes for you! There are actually places on Bonaire that state that package includes "unlimited shore diving" but it means ONLY certain amount of tanks/day (usually 3). Now that is NOT unlimited to me! Most places are truly unlimited but it's worth asking if you plan on more than a couple of dives a day - just in case you happened upon those few places where you pay extra for 3+ tanks.

Also in some places "air-conditioned" does not mean the whole place is air-conditioned. Now, this does not mean it's a problem (because of tradewinds etc) but if it's an important thing for you, you might want to ask if the A/C is both in bedroom/s and living areas etc or if it's needed at all.

Those were couple of things I noticed with Bonaire. Good look with your search! Bonaire is great, I am struggling with my general agenda to visit different places versus my desire to return RIGHT AWAY. :)

Thanks piikki.
I had heard something like that about the AC situation but not about the tanks.
I agree with you -3 tanks is not unlimited! I have searched these boards frequently in the last couple of days and am surprised I have not come across that info.

Do you know which dive ops limit you? I will be using Wannadive for one week and Bonaire Dive & Adventure for the other. We'll be staying at Golden Reef and then Den Laman.

That is definitely something that should be disclosed upfront.

I'll be sure to post a detailed trip report when I get back, with ALL those little details mentioned. It may be helpful to someone else.

No flags.
BSDME has the info you need.
Thin soled booties will work but thicker ones are the way to go.
Don't sweat the shore diving. It doesn't get any easier than Bonaire.

Not sure about the hot water issue. I've got a email out to my bud that was at the Hut last month and will pass on that info. You would love the Wannadive crew, I can tell you.
