I'm not a tech diver, just a rec diver. But a lot of the tech/dir stuff makes sense, however, whats the purpose of the boltsnap next to your second stage? I'm sure its very simple and obvious, but not to me. What gives?

So you can clip it off while using another tank for decompression or while putting your gear on or taking it off.

That's kinda what I thought. Clipping it off while I gear up makes loads of sense, one more question, I put a Miflex hose on my reg set, would I notice the small bit of extra weight?

Welcome to the forum :). FYI, many DIR divers are recreational divers - it makes sense for any kind of diving :)!

Myflex isn't favored for the 7' hose as it tends to be a bit floaty (which can be annoying at times), and the smaller high pressure SPG Miflex hose has been known to fail.

The weight differential is welcomed in airline travel, but UW the extra ballast is oftened desired...

You mean the small bit of extra weight from the boltsnap? No, you won't notice it. You don't have to use a very large snap.
