Gh246, the boat is a 14' Larson. Thanks for stopping me. I had about decided against the (yea, that's it, MDF was on the tag.) because of the weight & my fears of it swelling & weakening. UP, I am so in awe. I have been spoken to directly by The Great One! Sorry for my poor humour, but honestly, I've learned to keep a sharp eye out for your posts due to the experience that is so obviously behind each & every one of them. Thanks for the link, "I'll check it out straightaway", to quote the Brits.

So far everbody has been pretty close. The foam is floatation foam most likely a polyisosyanurate. (foam with air spaces in it, perfect for water to get at). A replacement option is EPS ,extruded poly styrene. This foam resists water intrusion, consisting of tiny compressed foam beads. DOW makes a "Blue Boards" found in Home Depot, Lowes, etc. All of these foams including the 2 part urathane foams MUST be coated with a layer of glass. one of the best foams for sandwich coreing is AIREX.

All that this foam is for is flotation. But when it is wet ZERO floatation and lots of rot. another option is to build sealed flotation tanks integral to the hull.

As far as the plywood Marine plywood is the best. CDX (type C face on one side And D on the other, X for exterior glue) plywood can be used) But wet out (epoxy resin) all sides and ends. West System or MASS epoxys are great for this. then sever layers of glass. use eather epoxy( the best) or vynlester resin (3M). Poly wont bond to epoxy or even some poly resins.

Or if you want to get really fancy Vacum bag the Job and bag you can have a great job

Just my 2cents worth
