And just what, pray tell, were you looking for phil? :eyebrow:
I swore a blood oath on a stack of Bibles with a needle in my eye while standing on my Father's grave with my right hand raised that I wouldn't say. :D

I think boat dives are great because of the cushy diving. No hikes up or down hills, one tank that gets automatically filled, food, etc. However I do agree that you see more life on certain beach dives or private boats where you don't have 20 divers in a small area. One of my favorite dive spots on the mainland is Big Rock and Casino Pt. in Avalon on Catalina.

I haven't done a beach dive since I was certified... The nice thing about the dive boats is you get your tank refilled while your waiting for the next dive spot, and you only need to bring one tank. The downside is you are diving with 15-30+ people, this is why it's a little harder to see wildlife. The fish know when 20 divers hit the water. I now dive off my own boat. It's a lot of work, little harder getting your gear on etc, but I love being able to pull into small coves and shallow spots the big dive boats ignore. Anchoring the boat right at the edge of the kelp is great.

Well Tony, if you ever need a buddy or extra hand, give me a shout, I also live in the 'OC'

I was on the Mr. C

If I am to DM in the future, I am going to make sure my air fills and meals are included in the deal. I'm a green horn, so I am learning!
I DMd, if that's a word, on the Encore and Charisma (now Great Escape) a few times before I realized I prefer actually diving. :D
My first time as a DM I had to pay for the trip, plus food/air.

Just make sure that know what your going to have to pay for up front and you should be okay.

I'm with Palsey. While I sometimes do boat dives, I much prefer beach dives. I can 'feed the addiction' more regularly beach diving, with a dive before work, or at lunch, of after work, or after the kids go to bed ... you get the idea.

My favorite beach dives in Laguna: Deadman's & Seal Rock (oddly named, because there are only sea lions!) if I have the time for a surface swim. Shaw's ... lots of people knock it because of all the classes but, after more than a 100 dives there I'm still learning parts of the reef. Diver's cove, especially becuase of all the large rays that seem to congregate there. It's also fun to start there & end at Shaw's. Wood's cove (at high tide). Hear great things about Treasure Island, but haven't yet dove there.
