Anyone know of anyone that rents boats in Roatan, without a captain? We are renting a house in May and have a dock, and would love to have a small whaler to put around in. Also would love a hobie cat to mess around with during the week.

Lastly, anyone had recent experience with Octopus? Sent them an email a few days ago with no reply. Are they still open?

Try sending them a fax, this is the traditional means of communication on the Bay Islands. Use (504) 3304-0937. Sometimes the internet can be iffy, and then computers don't like salt air that much, either.

Doc,

From the US, wouldn't that be 011-504-etc?

Regards,

Have you tried just calling them? Have you asked the owner/manager of the house your renting? seems the one your paying the money to should be able to assist or at least reply, if not then are you sure you want to stay there? Octopus is at Blue bahia, Have you called there? Kent runs a pretty tight operation there and may help as well.

I'm curious as to whether you found someone to rent a boat from? I'm headed there soon myself and I've been looking for a boat with no luck too.

Do not count on renting a boat withot a captain. Most do not have the capability to do credit card transactions for such things and the reef can be decieving, What is their recourse when you tear up a prop or lower unit or tear up the hull? Now many may rent if you give a cash deposit of the boats total value but thats a different story.
Would you rent you car to a stranger from a different country that had no idea as to the rules of the road ? And who also had no way to verify or guaruntee they would pay for damage?

there's no way anyone but a fool would rent out a boat in the bay islands. drunk gringoes end up on the reef every other week and even sober ones loose their down leg to an unforeseen pinnacles. renting out a boat would be financial suicide, hobie cats may be available though.

I have been diving with Octopus many times. Nuria Corraliza is a co-owner & dive instructor. Great diver & lady. Try:
