They do seem to be a tad strict. I don't go there when there are manatees in the area. *Shudder*

Dr. Jay - I tend to dive at the drop of a hat. Hard to round up a buddy on that kind of short notice. So I grab my tank and gear and off I go on a neat adventure.

The various springs don't like my typical story, which is, "I don't have a buddy, but I intend to use my incredibly adapted social skills to hook up with one of the divers already in the park".

Silly rangers.

So I do beach dives. Occasionally this requires dodging lifeguards. They are much less strict, and just nicer people in general, in my experience.

Wierd thing happened today... world is comming to the end or something ?

We went with Dr. Jay to Blue Springs today. Water level is lower than usual, water has bunch of junk floating around.. things like that. Got the yearly state park "family" pass...

They actually explained to us that yes, we don't have to be familly or we don't even have to be in the same car, just need to show up at the same time. 4 divers per pass limit though (usually the pass is valid for max 8 people)

ok, and now the wierd stuff.

We forgot about the "need to be out of the water and claim c-card by 5 pm" rule. We did 2 40 minute long dives in the spring and we got out of the water at 6:30 pm. We are taking our gear off and here comes a park guy and informs us that we just violated the park rule, it costs $125 per person in fines etc. But right then he takes his radio and tells the guys in the ranger shack that he has two late divers and all is ok, we are "forgiven". The ranger on the way back giving us the c-cards back was nice too.... no fines, no lectures, no shouting, just a civilized light conversation and we are one our way back to orlando....

I got the lecture of my life for being fifteen minutes late... forget that I was exhausted and HAD to rest.

And I was actually thinking about give Blue Springs a try on a upcoming vacation. From what you all are saying, it's a good thing Ginnie Springs is getting the dive.

Don't tell me that they are run by the same bunch of people!

Sounds like fun:wacko:

Blue Springs is a state park
Ginnie is (? forgive me if i am wrong) a private operation.

When it comes to diving Ginnie has much nicer sites , especially if you are cave or cavern certified (And if you are not, they run cavern classes (two days) every other week, check their web page for schedule. Cavern and intro to cave is about $200 each and includes park access fees and air fills. (does it include camping??? can anybody tell me, i am planning to drag Dr. Jay for cavern class in the comming month(s)).

Blue Springs is err... nice big hole in the ground, deep, nice , but only one :-)
