My wife and I are planning on visiting some friends in RI this summer and I'd like to do one of the Blue Shark cage dives while we're in the neighbourhood.

So far on Google the only operator I've been able to find is http://www.snappacharters.com/. Can anybody recommend this operator or any other? I'll probably be diving by myself, so I'll be trying to gat along as an individual.

Thanks,

D

we have had a couple of groups from our lds use snappa-good opration..I personally have not had the chance thou..As far as I know you realy have to book these guys way way in advance for they book trips early..

Snappa kicks serious shark-diving butt.

Charlie was strongly considering getting out of the business at the end of last year's season, but I hope he reconsiders. He's the original cage diving artist in the area, and totally knows what he's doing. A lot of it was based on whether or not he could sell his boat.

Send him an email. The more people he knows that want him to keep running the better. Oly's right - he fills up fast.

I went out with Charlie about 4 years ago -- he runs a good operation. We didn't have much luck with sharks the day we were out there...but I've heard lots of good feedback on him from many folks.

Chris

According to his website, he's not taking 2006 off, but he is running a limited schedule. FYI.

if you are looking for a dive buddy for the trip let me know when you are going .
i would love to do a shark dive ...

If you cannot get out with Charlie, as he does book up quickly, there is also Billy Palmer on the Thunderfish http://www.thunderfishcharters.com/. Both good operations. As stated earlier, Charlie is the original when it comes to Shark Dives. Billy is also no newbie when it comes to chartering in this neighborhood. He is also quite a colorful character which makes the trip interesting. Incedently, he is the Billy Palmer of Shadow Divers"fame".

Have fun!

We'll be running shark cage dives out of Snug Harbor aboard the EXPLORER, a 42 foot Grand Banks trawler for small groups. This is a live aboard boat for small groups, and we can do either late night departures for the shark grounds, to be on site at daybreak, or early AM departures to arrive offshore mid-morning. All charters include food, drinks, a good bunk, fresh water showers (hot even!) and deluxe care. This is not an industrial dive boat, it is a private yacht accepting a limited number of private charters. We can arrange a stopover at Block Island on the way back for dinner, shopping, etc., or can make it into a 2-3 day liveaboard trip if you want to hit some of the wrecks or any other activity that you might desire. Charlie at Narragansett Pier Dive is handling reservations, t so contact him if you want to book a trip. Feel free to email me as well.

Regards,

Dave Sutton, Master
Trawler EXPLORER

Thanks everybody,

That helps a lot. I'll check out all of those charters. At this point I'll have to call up mapquest - a lot of it will probably depend on what's closest to our friends place.

Dave - what size groups can your yacht take and what would you be looking to charge? At this point it's just my wife and I who are looking at going, but we've been talking about some weeklong liveaboard trips and I'd like to try a 1-2 night trip first to make sure she knows what she's getting into.
