I just saw this on LP. A 1000 lumen can light for $200.

Blue Reef Orca Torch 950 Lumens Canister Light D610

It's the same LED emitter as lights like the DRiS 1K and the Dive Gear Express DGX 600. I.e. the Cree XM-L2 U2. Rated for just over 1000 lumens raw output.

The can holds 2 26650 rechargeable lights. It says it comes with 2 batteries that are 4000mAh each.

They claim a 2:45 burn time on High.

Anybody tried one of these?

Also, I looked on eBay and it looks like you can get 26650 batteries that are as high as 7800mAh each. Does that mean you could get replacement batteries for this light to nearly double the burn time on a charge?

At $200, with LP's return policy, I am very tempted to buy one of these and try it.

I'm holding off, for now. It's the same single LED emitter that's in my $50 Dive Gear Express lights. So, I don't think it could be significantly brighter than what I have - just burn longer.

But, the knowledgeable and experienced divers here on SB that I trust have all recommended that, when I get a can light, I get something brighter than that. So, I am waiting until I have more experience and actually see for myself (so to speak - ha ha!) if the lights are have are really bright enough, or if I should get longer AND brighter.

I haven't seen a single post yet where anyone every said their light was too bright and they wished they'd gotten something less bright. Not even if the sentiment was really just saying that they wished they'd save some money because less bright would have been good enough. That makes me inclined to think this can light would ultimately be unsatisfactory because it's only one LED and the true, out the front, lumens is probably more like 600 or even less.
