it was soooooo gorgeous! Weather was clear and sunny but not too hot. There were only a couple of groups (one was ours, my hubby teaching OW and some dive-alongs) so never crowded in r out of water and vis was excellent. When we arrived Sat am, we were the first ones there and you could almost see the bottom from the giant-stride platform. I haven't seen it this clear in years! Also, the bottom topography has changed since the last dredging. We were there in May, the whole month of June was dredging time, and now there is no "slide" and lots of large boulders on bottom. I actually like it much better. There is much more "bottom" now with the slide gone although depth is now in the 60'-67' for most of it. Depth around the snorkel is in upper-70's. (I used to be able to get 84' at the grate). At the bottom on Sat morning we could see the whole thing from side to side, every rock clear as can be. Wow. This is the first time since they started the dredging a few years ago that it looks better.

Oh, and only one pirahna left from what I was told, I never saw it. The goldfish and carp were all doing well, only a few live crawfish found though.

Nice!! The week before last the place was pretty crowded (as usual), viz wasn't great, but you're right about the bottom. It's quite different. Makes for a "completely different dive".........

well, maybe not.:dork2::D

It's a COMPLETELY different dive if you go to the bottom, run some line, and do some no-mask drills while following line! :D

I agree. My family and I were there. Not crowded at all. We were are own dive group. The "older" couple. She dove a black steel "nitrox" 98's, he (the gray haired guy) had double steel 98's. with various stage bottles depending on my mood. The boys dived various color tanks with BP/W configuations. we were there Friday, Sat. and Sunday morning. I spent some time at Rock Lake. Sorry we could not connect. I had a little Bar-b-Q at the campground for the Denver Group. We would have welcomed you. Maybe next time.

I've been there three times since the dredging. I think the outflow has improved. The bottom at the grate is still at 84'. In fact I think I measured 85' last time by putting my hand at the bottom below the grate.

I always enjoy the Hole. Too bad it's such a drive, but I seem to get down there more than a lot of ABQ folks! :D
