I have noticed that I tend to bleed (spot) from "down south" after diving. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them as well? Does anyone know what could cause this, and if it anything I should worry about. I know some people get nose bleeds (spotting) after diving, could it be the same kind of issue? Thanks :embarr:

How deep were you diving? I noticed this when I would do dives in the 100' range if I was within a week of the start of that 'time' of the month. I asked my gyn about it, but he had no clue. He was like "really? weird". So he wasn't any help and I never pursued an answer further. It hasn't happened in a very long time.

It happens to me when I am a little bit past mid-cycle, and esp when I dive 90' or deeper. My Gyn said it was no big thing, she is a diver and it happens to her sometimes, too.
The spotting only lasts a few hours and stops.

I wonder what the physiology and or physics of this would be? Wendy and SueMermaid's experiences seem to indicate that this has to do with depth(pressure) as well as time in the cycle.

I don't see spotting on every dive. I do see it more so when it is closer to my cycle starting, but I have also seen it only a week and a half after my cycle stopped. I asked my GYN about it and she was clueless, but added that it didn't seem to be a problem ("A little blood, no biggy"). As far as depth goes, it happens more at lower depths, but it also happens around 40 ft. I am not too worried about it... I mostly just wanted to know if anyone else had similar experiences and if they knew why this was happening. Thanks :)

Not to be flippant, but most physicians don't have a clue about scuba or hyperbaric medicine, even those in specialties like GYN or ENT.

Might I suggest you contact DAN (http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/) or ScubaDoc (http://scuba-doc.com/) for information on this subject?

Just a thought,

Mostly when I dive around 80 and it is more then spotting. I don't cramp or anything just seems like a heavy light day, if you know what I mean. I don't think that it is anything to worry about and I have spoke to my doctor (who is a diver) and he says it should be fine.
