going to block island soon to stay with a friend a few days...are there decent locations to dive there?

Fore shore. Check out the North end of mansion beach. Shallow by real nice. Last time we snorkled there we saw a lare stingray 5 ft min wing span and some awesom lions main full of butterfish and piolot fish.

If you can get out to it, the Idene wreck is fun. Definately not a shore dive though.
