I recently finished my OW cert and I've always loved the look of analog dive watches. Now I'd really like the Seamaster for a desk diver as well as actual diver. The Rolex Seadweller is nice too but I suppose I just prefer the SM. I'm not real keen on the Planet Ocean look.

A gift I received, a Movado chrono diver, is what I have been using for my dives and find that the bezel 'timer' is quite easy to understand at a glance so I'm perfectly happy to stick with that system. I have not used the chrono function as I feel it is too small, meaning that I have to LOOK at it to read it (vs taking a glance out the side of the mask to see elapsed time).
As far as the watch itself ........... again, it was a gift

I do have a classic G-Shock, the 5600 series, that I enjoy as well ............. but, again, this thread is about bling lol :D but useful, functional bling.

How is the Sub over the Rolex underwater?

How easy is it to read the hands/faces/bezels in varying light conditions?

What other analog manufacturers am I missing?

IWC perhaps?

I like the idea of the analog watch as a backup so I'm fine with getting a computer in the near future (like a Suunto Zoop).

Again we are strictly talking 'one watch to rule them all'.............. From dive wreck to dinner. :meeting:

Boy, this is like a "who is the prettiest girl" argument - no two people can ever agree.

I don't know about the Sea Dweller, but I used to own a Rolex Submariner, and I was never that keen on it and ended up selling it. If ever bought another Rolex, I would probably go for the Yachtmaster (same bezel; may as well be a dive watch).

Not really a diving watch, but I current have a G-Shock solar and love it.

If I was to buy a true analogue diving watch tomorrow, I'd probably go for one of the Tag Heuer line.

check ball watches.

Can can them in night dives, some with internal bezels.. great watches.

I have one or two so called blingy dive watches

dive watches.jpg

they are starting from the pepsi bezel.

1) Christopher ward - trident
2) Omega Ploprof (One of my few watches that I use for diving)
3) Tag 500m
4) IWC Aquatimer
5) Omega Planet Ocean
6) Sinn U1 (awesome watch)
7) Omega Seamaster (also call the great white)
8) Seiko Eco-zilla
9) Panerai 001
10) Vintage Omega seamaster

I have been wearing and diving a Citizen Aqualand promaster for the last 12 years. Mine is an older model and not the "eco drive" but the current models share some of the features. Bottom timer kicks on at 3 feet. Shows current depth and bottom time throughout dive. You can set a max depth alarm and it logs your last 4 dives. It makes a pretty good backup to my DC and looks pretty cool on the surface. I am sure the new models have more features and better memory so the might be worth a look and much more affordable than Rolex.

Now a question I can REALLY get into. There has never been a better time for Dive watch fans! There are many small "Boutique"manufacturers that specialize in limited production runs of VERY fine watches.Companies like Armida,Benarus,Boschett,Halios,Helson,SAS & Zixen just to name a few. Then there is the KING of Dive watches,Doxa.Check out the Dive Watch forum at "watchuseek.com",especially the daily WRUW(What Are You Wearing) thread. Here are a few of my divers.PS:ORANGE IS THE COLOR for ANY true diver to wear!!!

Hi Dan,

Almost every watch I own is a dive watch. There are so many to choose from at this time, it's really hard to pick just one out and say, "This is the dive watch to wear."

First off, you have to decide if you want an automatic or battery, there are pluses and minuses to both. Then you need to decide on what size you want. Do you want a metal band or rubber? Color? I think a rotating bezel is a must, personally.

The watches I could dive with include a Omega Seamaster, a Breitling Superocean coral (orange face), a Breitling Superocean Colt (black face), a Victorinox (don't know the model offhand, but has a red face with very bright lume), a Doxa SUB 750T (with yellow face and GMT), and a couple more that I can't recall at the moment. All of these are good quality dive watches with water resistance ratings from 300m to 1500m. I have actually been diving with the all but the Colt (it's too pretty to chance a scratch or ding). I've quit diving with the Breitling, however because it has a bright, shiny bracelet--there is a possibility that it could attract a barracuda or some other fish with large teeth.

My favorite right now is the Doxa. The yellow face is very easy to see underwater, the rotating bezel actually as no-decomp tables printed on it and the bracelet is brushed stainless. The bracelet also has a diver's extension so I can put the watch on over my wetsuit, both 3mm and 7mm.

None of these are cheap watches, but then if you are looking at the Rolex SeaDweller, price is apparently not a problem for you :)

I would say, if I were limited to one watch for diving, I'd have to say the Doxa would be it. Nice size, very easy to see, 750m water resistance, reasonable price. And hey, Jacque Cousteau used to wear them!
