Can anyone tell me about experiences with Blackbeards Dive boats in the Bahamas. Thinking about going in June...

Moderately bare bones (bunks, not a lot of storage) but the crews are fantastic. I have been going with my son or spring break for 3 years now (leaving in 2.5 weeks for round 4).

Take a lot of sunscreen if you burn easily and triptone/bonine if you get motion sick. The crossings can be a bit rough at times.

Great diving, great food, able to fish if you want, grabbing lobster if you feel like free-diving.

I just returned from a trip aboard the Morning Star (Jan 26-Feb 1). I've posted about that trip here in the marine life and ecosystems sub-forum and a number of my pictures are available in my Facebook album:

It is indeed barebones... like "camping at sea." Space can be limited but the diving is fun, the crew is generally great and the food is wonderful! I had a great time and would certainly consider a return trip with them. I'll be posting several more of my weekly newspaper columns about that experience both here on SB and on my website (Star Thrower Educational Multimedia (S.T.E.M.) Products: Weekly Newspaper Columns)

Great to know, I have booked a trip for June 22, and really looking forward to it. Most of my diving has been in the cold waters of Puget Sound, Wash. so this will be really different. Thanks for the info....

I've got two friends from Seattle coming with us March 9th-15th -- You won't find any GPOs in the Bahamas but it is still worth doing. :)

Blackbeard's is a good value, too.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my Blackbeard question. It sounds to me like It will be a fantastic dive adventure. The camping at sea is no problem at all, and I will post my experiences when I get back. Thanks again SR.

Just posted a follow-up column on my Blackbeard trip in the Marine Life and Ecosystems subforum.
