I'm a Fish!
I have heard from time to time the mention of using black lights for night dives. I have been trying to gather info from anyone who has done this, what equipment is needed as well as where to get the equipment.

I have heard that you can get lights as well as a filter that goes on your mask, do you need the filter that goes on your mask? In some ways the filter sounds like a nuissance especially at night.

I hope that someone can help me out with some info on this

Thank you in Advance

Hi, if you are using a 10 watt HID, you can use a cobalt blue sight glass from McMaster-Carr. That will give you enough UV to flouresce any material underwater and you shouldn't need a mask filter. If you want to get crazy with a DIY, you can purchase Nicha UV LEDs in the 365-395nm range that will do an excellent job or buy a UV LED flashlight from Tektite.
Regards,
Carl
