My birthday's coming up on the 29th, and my wife and I agree that we need to do a dive! The weekend prior to that is a break between school sessions for me, and so we've definitely got to go somewhere. I am so, so sick of school right now.

We are in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and don't want to travel too far (ie., 8 hours to colorado is out, sorry! :) ), but would like to get some good diving in. Any recommendations on what would be good for two OW-cert divers barely wet behind their ears? We'd love to have anyone join us, if ya want - always up for meeting local divers!

Time to take back the weather and the water!

Happy BDay Rollerboi,

Well if you’re not up for the 8 hour drive to Colorado you’re limiting your options to local. So you have your choice of the ‘Crater’, Seabase, Blue Lake, Belmont Springs (Camperworld), all being geothermal. You could drive to St. George and try Sand Hollow, continue south to Lake Mead or head southeast to Lake Powell. Right now water temps will still be in the 50-60 degree range.

If you don't make it out to Seabase this weekend then pencil in their underwater pumpkin carving contest in October. It's a fun time and you get to meet some great people.

The pumpkin carving sounds like fun! :) Well, we went yesterday. Unfortunately, there was a class there before us, as well as some high school kids. They knocked algae off the sides and silted up the bottom, so my wife and I had optimal viz of about 3 feet at the most.

Oh well! We got wet! :) It taught us a lot about our reactions to low viz conditions, and I see that I have a long way to go. *wry chuckle*. Also had problems dialing in my weight with my new wetsuit. But all things considered, it was a great learning experience. Linda is so nice, and it was fun chatting with her afterwards.

Finally, amazingly enough, my wife didn't completely hate it, even though she got disoriented and felt like she was going to throw up at 40 ft. :)
