I will be in Grand Cayman with my family over the December dates that this biolumenescent pontoon and snorkeling tour is offered. Last year we were able to see this phenomenon during the glow dive offered by Ocean Frontiers. During that dive the biolumenescent plankton was present but not prevalent; basically you could swipe your hand through the water and see it but not in really large amounts.

My question is to those with more knowledge(residents, frequent visitors, biologists, etc.), is December a good month to see this or is there a better time of the year? Has anyone done this trip(or one like it on Grand Cayman) and do you just see the few dots of light, like I described from our last trip, or is there enough of a "wow!" Effect to make it truly memorable?

Thanks in advance!

I loved this tour! It was explained to us that the bay is losing its bio-luminescence and it diminishes every year. The reasons are unknown but believed to be pollution. We saw it in June this year and it was as you described with dots of light.
