What I always find interesting is when you see guys riding motorcycles in Manila, China, wherever, and they don't have the strap done up. What good is a helmet in a motorcycle crash if its not buckled up?

On the subject of hitting people, a friend of mine was on his motorcycle on EDSA near Greenhills a few years ago and a woman got off a bus, walked in front of the bus into my friends lane and he hit her. Fortunately for him he and his wife didn't fall off the bike, he was able to stop. The woman was lying on the road in pretty bad shape, he stops a taxi, and takes the woman to the hospital (and paid the hospital bills), where she eventually dies unfortunately. The family took my friend to court and eventually they settled out of court. The judge in the case didn't want the family to settle, she wanted to continue the case she said because he was a foreigner. They did settle in the end, but judge really wanted to go after my friend.

Is that our Swedish mate Tommy the Sod? Wasn't he totalled by a trike as well a few years back?

Hi Larry,

Tommy kissed a jeepney on the way to or from Calapan a few years ago. He had a really severe break in one of his forearms, took forever to heal and I'm not sure if he has complete use of that hand even now.

The motorcycle accident I'm talking about was my mate Richard, the Infomercial King, not sure if you've met him. He dives some but used to spend more time in Sabang Disco than Sabang Bay. Now that he moved to Cebu he doesn't get to PG very often.

Whoops, my bad.

Don't know Richard, but yeah, Tommy's hand is still not even close to 100%, nor ever will be (I did the Tubbataha trip with him in April, so my info's pretty good).

Between that and falling down cliffs / off walls / out of planes, we've seen a few friends hurt themselves over the years. Remember E. the Martian...?
