No. the SAA was originally formed as a BSAC splinter group. It is more of an umbrella setup for independent clubs, unlike the BSAC, which (on paper at least) has a rather more rigid structure, etc.

These days there are main diving "club orgs" in the UK:

- BSAC: British Sub-Aqua Club.
- SAA: Sub-Aqua Association.
- SSAC (or SSC?): Scottish Sub-Aqua Association.

note: BSAC was, but isnt anymore, a member of CMAS. Rumours vary on the why and how, so I would suggest independant research to anyone who wants the sordid details :wink:
