Hey guys, with the gas situation getting out of hand like it has been and before I have to start riding a bicycle, I'm looking for the best or much better vis dive site than Lanier that is within 1-3 hours of Atlanta? Who has the best vis, Lake Jocassee or Loch Low Minn or Dive Haven or is there anywhere else that I'm missing?

It's nice to get wet in Lanier, but I would like to see the bottom where I'm divng before I'm within 1-2 ft. of it as well.

Thanks!

Most would probably say Bluewater.

having tried them both, I would have to say, each has it's own pluses, but ALBW seems to have a little better Vis from the few examples that I have. 2 trips to LLM and 1 to BW.

How's the vis at Dive Haven compare to Lake Lanier?
In other words what kind of vis do you have at say 40 ft., 75 ft and 100ft. usually?

Apparently Dive Haven is the closest site of the 3: Loch Low Minn and Blue Water and Dive Haven supposedly just 45 min. north of Atlanta.

Last I went to Haven there was a horrible Bloom. But soon as you got below 55 feet it clears out and you have a good bit of ambient light. I haven't been there this year. I'd say within the bloom you get about 10 feet then at 55+ you get about 25.

I've never been to LLM, but I like Pelham (except for climbing that hill in doubles). If you get deep the vis is the best freshwater I've seen and its so nice and cool and peaceful down there (narced!!!!)

I've been diving Dive Haven working on Tec I for the last couple of weekends. the vis isn't horrible there right now as long as you stay away from where us Tech wannabes are kicking up the bottom doing no mask drop and pick up of two stage bottles :-)

we saw up to 15' vis this weekend, better mid water than on the shore of course.

Does anybody dive from a boat at Lanier? Most people seem to be diving near the shore. Is vis any better out in the middle?

mark (divinginn) has a pontoon and has generously taken us out a few times. it has an AWESOME dive flag on it....just needs a skull and crossbones silk screened on it....or perhaps the words "Rock throwers will get they a**es kicked". Plus the music is great "we can't drink at Georgia games no more" (or sumpin like dat) :rofl3:

given the condition of the lake right now, the best diving is probably only doable by boat, that is right along the rip rap at buford dam.
