I'm currently a single backmount diver, looking at getting my first tanks. I'm thinking about getting a pair of Worthington HP100s. There's a good chance that I'll be doing sidemount soon, so I'm looking to get tanks that will work well for that as well.

What's the best type of valves for sidemount that will also work for backmount? I'm thinking either Pro L/R... or for a few bucks extra I could get Modular L/R valves. Is the modular beneficial for sidemount (able to loop over the extra protusion)? My regulator is DIN.

Also, will the HP100s be good for sidemount? I've heard mixed opinions on this. But I don't know of a better option that will also be good for backmount (I'm diving recreational coldwater in a drysuit).

My 2 PSI, modulars are a good choice for the reasons you've stated. The hp 100 are an excellent tank for cold water/drysuit dives. I use hp 120's as well as hp 100's. Ensure you've got a balanced rig (bladder lift=Weight) and get used to the negative buoyancy the tanks will have on the surface.

I like the L/R modular valves for sidemount, which I use with the simple bungee loops on the Stealth harness.
