Elearning actually more expensive . Elearning cost $185.. Traditional crewpack of text book and DVD video $108. Can study at home with crewpack , actually it is recommended to do so before start of class. Elearning easier on instructor as it can eliminate academic presentations .
Good to know. Thanks

A lot of people don't have DVD players anymore. Does PADI have a work around for that? Just wondering...

Not yet. It is on their "to do" list.

edit: Given your background and plans to dive all over the world, definitely go with a tech-rooted agency over PADI, or otherwise choose your instructors thoroughly. You'll want to get a tec instructor that will teach with wings and make sure you can get your trim and buoyancy right every time. That will matter a lot when diving in different waters.

Given your Ranger background, I'd echo ^^^^^ on gear. BP/W system is based around 2" webbing and a support plate. Mix, match, tie, tape whatever you need onto that for the mission, or your preference over time. Start with an initial cut at what you need, and adapt it to you.

Browse the BC sub forum for more. It opens a small can of worms of what components you want from whom. But the sewn-all-together option is committing now to someone else's idea of how exactly your complete load carrying gear should be sewn, not clipped/tapped, together.

:rofl3:

The problem is once you rip it into a file, you can't sell it. Or, rather, you can't sell it for 60 bucks: at that price everyone will just download it from pirate bay. (ICBW but I think just the textbook was $40 when I did it.)

Having taught SSI in the recent past, I will say their online training materials are really, really, really good. In terms of academics I stopped having to teach. Exams scores were very high.

Just a thought if you are looking at getting certified in general or specifically want PADI open water. I have no idea what your goals are.

Right, so I expect changes to pricing models in the future too. I think "streaming" was mentioned.

Does their e-learning not include streaming videos already?
