Hi,

I live in an area where we can do a lot of shore dives - some of them with some pretty decent hikes, very rocky entries with surf.

My question relates to which system or specifically harness system is better for the sometimes long hike to the water and back: I am narrowing down choices to the Zeagle Brigade from scubatoys, the DSS SS backplate system, Diverite Transplate or Transpac and finally the Mares Morphos.

What d'ya think and why?

I will be first to step up and recommend the DSS single tank system. Buy this system first and forget wasting money upgrading.

Well, I haven't done a lot of long hikes to the water, but we did one that was about a quarter mile in Maui. I was using my Oxycheq plate and harness system (single tank) and I was really surprised at how well I tolerated the weight on the walk, both down and back uphill.

I would opt for the BP/W as the plate will divide the weight of rig across larger area
(BTW I dive the Transpac 2,but then again,I don't use it as a hiking accessory)

Which DSS harness (pro or hog) would be better suited for long distance carrying out of the water?

That's a good point in favour of BP/W - it's a real pain to have to hike 1/2 mile in full gear with a fully stocked weight belt.

Both are perfectly suited for long distance carrying. Only you can decide if you want the fancy hardware of the Pro-Fit or the simplicity of the HOG. I purchased the Pro-Fit and have maintained the hardware and switched to a heavier webbing.

If you have done any research on this board already you will have come to the conclussion that Tobin's gear rules, not that other companies don't provide quality gear.

I have the Morphos Pro, and have been comfortable with the way that it carries the weight. I have not done long distance carrying though.

One thing, the Morphos itself is not the lightest BC.

Yes, I have researched here on the board and have been in touch with Tobin by email. Had a fast response which was good. Also had a good experience with scubatoys when I purchased a computer.

For me, at this point, it is almost a case of which harness system will get me from the truck to the ocean with the least amount of pain!

I think I read somewhere that it is fairly buoyant and not neutral or even slightly negative? The air-trim system, and how it floats at the surface is what appealed to me about it. What are the pros and cons from your point of view?
