I have been unsuccessful at 1/2 mile

2 options for me, may not be for you, if you don’t have a dedicated LP line blow gun for blowing up your non open-bottom DSMB (see my red hose, below).

Option 1 (for those w/o dedicated LP hose)
When you are floating and seeing your boat a mile away, disconnect your BCD power inflator & connect your LP hose to the DiveAlert & squeeze it away towards the boat.

Option 2 (for those w/ dedicated LP hose - me)
When I’m floating and seeing my boat a mile away, disconnect my blow gun out of the red hose & connect it to the DiveAlert & squeeze it away towards the boat.

I don't understand the need for extra hoses or having to disconnect the perfectly find BC LP hose to inflate the DSMB, why can't you just use your happy little mouth and inflate it directly?

I guess I didn’t explain it clearly. I apologize. I’m talking about installing the DiveAlert to the quick-connect LP hose that is connected to the BCD power inflator

Top of the line first and second stage with the bottom of the line Octo.????????????????

Something wrong with that? It works fine for me for the past 13 years.

I just don’t like having the low pressure ports sitting on top of the regulator. When you mount it to the tank valve, the regulator sticking way up & when I do a back roll into the water, the back of my head hit the top of the regulator. By putting it upside down, the problem solved. :)

@Dan_T , please excuse my ignorance...so no tool is needed to disconnect the blow gun? And the Dive Alert just snaps on? If that is the case, the extra hose has double functionality. I like that!

Explain what you mean here? I’m confused.

@Dan_T said he will place his new Dive Alert in his pocket rather than pre-installing it on his bc lp hose. And he will install it upon an emergency (like when he needed it in the open ocean). And I was wondering if it was easily installable.

The quick-connect fitting of the LP hose has the slide ring to quickly connect/ disconnect the line from the BCD power inflator or from the blow gun. It’s standard fitting. Like @RayfromTX says, practice doing it during your checkout dive. It’ll get easier to connect/ disconnect the device even under that 150 psig air pressure pushing the spring against it.
