I have been diving for quite a while and have never used a saftey sausage before. Usually here we use a towable float with a flag. With the discussion on the ABC island part of the board on the Kitesurfers on Bonaire i have been considering one. (And i know i should have one with me on every dive and i will after this.) What is the best one to use to be able to deploy from depth brand and model please, and also use at the surface to signal a boat if need be. any and all comments welcome. I am in the mood to purchase, but not sure what to get.

I posted this in another thread...

I like the Carter sausages. I have the smallest safety sausage. 20 lbs of lift and 6' tall. I think they are well made, priced right ($40), tall enough and not too big that it takes a lot to inflate them. I use this primarily as a DSMB.

Always good to have a divehorn/whistle, mirror and SMB.
I love my $40 SMB from Scubatoys. It is inflated by octo underwater (by itself or at depth with a reel). I prefer this over mouth inflation on the surface (some prefer otherwise). It is made of cordura, has a brass clip, D-ring and purge valve and costs less than half the price of similar sized SMBs (from Diverite or OMS). Only concern - it is huge (but big is better in SMBs I guess):

mention you're from this board and they'll take 10% off.

My previous SMB from OMS was also octo-inflated and slightly smaller:

Dive safely.

Thanks for the info so far. A question on hte DAN kit, can you use a octo to fill it also through the bottom like some of the others?
