Like I said, I'm saving the cash for a drysuit. 40's is still too cold, even for a fat, hairy guy like myself. See you in May.

I was looking through the CT lobstering laws, and saw there's a season for horseshoe crabs. Anyone know why you'd want to take 'em? Do people really eat those things??

Discriminating people don't eat them, but knobbed whelk and channeled whelk are big fans, so the folks who take them are most likely conch fishermen looking for bait.

I'm surprised you prefer South shore shore diving to North shore. The lack of depth and bottom structure to give home to the almighty lobster seems to be lacking on the S-shore.

I have a strong preference for south shore diving, but the shore diving is tough. Mostly, I like to dive the southern harbor islands, the minot rocks, etc. which are all boat dives. There are good shore diving spots, but most of them are private access with no parking, like sandy cove. If you know any property owners there, the sites aren't bad at all.

Temps must be close to 50F degrees by now in the shallows? Hopefully, I'll get into the water soon and see for myself if the lobstahs are there. Then, I'll be able to re-acquaint myself with all those 'they'll be ready by next spring' bugs.

That's a funny one. I didn't see temps in the 50s until late August last year!

FWIW, on 4/25, the Chester Poling was 38 degrees at the bottom and 41 on the surface.

Last year was espically cold, I often see temps in the 50s in July, but, not a 100'. I think the warmest I've ever seen on the Poling was 46degs in late septemeber.

38 last weekend huh? That's chilly, I hope this vis was good atleast. Pretty strong winds too right?

Decent vis and not much for chop. The top 40 feet or so was mucky, so it was pretty dark down below, but there was decent vis.

50 degrees this time of year?...You can tell I've never dove before July, huh? ;)

Cloudy, slight drizzle, 48 deg air, 43 deg surface temp, thirty freggin eight at the bottom. Myself and a friend wetsuit dove Folly during these conditions yeasterday. We both saw a few bugs. We each saw one keeper but alas didn't come up with them. We stirred up too much sediment in our excitement. Vis was 8-10 ft at the bottom. The beginning in 25ft or less had 15ft or so of vis. It's great to be back in the swing of things hope to see some of you next week when we try again. Sid
