Hi all,

I'm a DIY-kind of guy, and (eventually) want to get into repairing/servicing my own regs. I plan to get the AirSpeedPress book, but wanted some views from the masses...

What's the best reg set to get when you take into consideration ease of DIY service, special tools, and parts availability?

FYI I always want top-of-the-line gear, but probably won't ever get into deco, caves, or arctic water. However, I do want something that can be O2 cleaned.

I like my older Scubapro regs for just those reasons. I'm talking Mk5 & Mk10 1st stages and the Adjustable, Balanced Adjustable, or G250 2nd stage. These systems are all very simple and easy to work on. While Scubapro is not one of the few manufacturers who will sell parts to you, they are big enough that there are plenty of cracks in the system. Parts show up on ebay fairly regularly. Documentation is readily available and special tools can either be fabricated, worked around, or purchased fairly cheaply.

Oxyhacker's book is a great place to start.

Good luck.

Dive Rite parts and manuals are available to everyone.

Very nice change from the typical Secret Squirrel routine that you have to go through to get parts.

Cool! I'm currently using a Mk 10/G250 with a Useless Divers Conshelf XIV?? for octo. Maybe I'll just stick with what I have.

Yes, that is very nice. The fact that I could service them myself with the blessing of the mfr was more than I had hoped for.

How do their regs compare? I've never used one.

Useless? I'll take it....

The DR regs breathe really well. I'm sure there is someone out there who has issues with them, but I've had mine down to 200' and they worked great.

I think I own three of them now. 2 decos and a single tank setup.

Very easy to service too.
