I use Scubapro MK10s paired with Mares Orbiter 2nds and couldn't be happier. The Mk 10s are cheap, reliable, and have 5th port turrets which are nice for inflator and long hose routing. The Orbiter/Abyss/DR 2nds are small, all metal, breath great and are very resistant to free flow with their VAD design so no need for dials or predive switchs. The fact I picked them up for $40 a peice factored into that decision, but it is a sweet setup. The other set I built for my other half are MK18 / S600s which are quite nice, but basically any 5th port turret DIN 1st paired with a 2nd you like will do.

I’m new to sidemount, looking at Apeks XT50 or XTR, anyone have any experience or opinions with these regs? Diving in water between 15degrees and 30degrees Celsius.

I have Apek DST (with 5th port ) and Scubapro MK25. Usefull for SM

There's an excellent set on the for-sale section

Went with Scuba pro MK25 and G260 and couldn't be happier
More importantly those work in just about every requirement: single backmount; twinset; sidemount (v.good for that); bailout/deco/stage regs (OK, their weakest usage)

I just use my old Tek3s taken from my twinset. ATX40 and XTX50 (set up for LH) as seconds.

Four ports is enough for my gas/inflation/SPG + one spare or for my dil.

Hose routing mightn’t be the cleanest, but most of the time no one can see me, so it doesn’t matter. :)

I've been diving the Odins/Jetstreams for a long time and I still have all of them. They are more expensive to service but I feel like the durability and unique features of the regs balance out that cost. Lots of people absolutely hate them, it's like one post above said, ask ten different divers and you'll get ten answers.

I've been diving the Apex XTR's for Sidemount for years now. Never an issue.
