I have a couple buddies who live in Redondo Beach/Long Beach area and I want to do some diving when I visit.

1. Are there any good beach dives?

2. They own a boat, where is a good place to get GPS coordinates for good dive sites?

There are a multitude of great shore dive sites here in Southern California. Veterans Park in Redondo Beach is a great muck dive and a short drive down the coast from there you'll encounter Honeymoon's, Christmas Tree Cove, Neptune's and Marineland on the Palos Verdes peninsula. The sites located in PV take a little more effort to reach, but are well worth it. If your looking for something with more easy access, I would recommend checking out the various dive sites in Laguna Beach.

With access to a boat, I would recommend a trip out to Catalina and some dives off of PV "if conditions permit". Christmas Tree Cove and Marineland "Long Point area" would be two mainland sites I would not miss.

For incredible visibility, the north east side of Catalina Island is spectacular. Take a boat trip to Catalina Island is my recommendation.
