I have a new super wide angle lens on it's way for my HD camcorder. Looking to get some practice in before my Galapagos trip.

Was thinking Grand Cayman might be good with stingray city and devil's grotto. Oh, non-diving girlfriend is coming too, so a nice resort is important too.

Any suggestions ?

I have only been diving in the Bahamas with the Nekton Pilot and a day at Belize, Roatan and Cozumel each via a cruise.

If she loves you, she will enjoy the topside paradise and wait patiently for you to come back out of the ocean...in which case, you can decide to go wherever the diving is incredible..... If she has needs, you should ask her what she wants out of it then let us divers know....we can give advice after  I know as my better half does not dive too....

Cruise diving was great. I got to do the best of both worlds...topside and UW..... awesome food, gambling, drinks, zero no-fly time, no luggage allowance issues....etc

Thanks for the suggestions. A cruise, hmmm, sounds like a possibility.

I should clarify. I've dove many different places in the Caribbean with my camcorder, but it was all macro and medium angle stuff. My new lens will cover 120 degrees so I'm looking for super wide angle and close encounters.

Choosing the Caribbean because it's close.

I will let others give advice as to where then as i am not so familiar with the region.

But if its something that both you and the better half can enjoy, a cruise is worth considering.... when I was on Carnival, I could pre plan where I wanted to dive and my wife would decide what tours she would do while I dove at a stop...shopping, etc.... I would be back on the boat by 4pm after 2 dives and have a amazing dinner with her each night....followed by shows, drinks, casino, etc.... There were also days at sea of course which I devoted to having fun with her... There are so many stops and places to choose from too.

Unfortunately, we can't satisfy the topside folk ever at most of the dive resorts....it may be pretty up there mostly but it will sure be boring for them.

*edit*...check the days which the cruise arrives at each stop too....I missed out on doing a shark feed dive in Grand Bahamas by a day (they dont do it everyday)......that would probably have been an interesting one for your WA lens....

My vote would be for Grand Cayman. They have a lot of very nice wide angle opporunities and the beaches are pretty good along 7-mile beach for your GF.

Shopping is good there also, and you can even shore dive at Sunset House while she hangs out at My Bar sipping on a nice refreshing drink.

Just a few wide angle views of Grand Cayman
