It is written on the websites of the touroperators that sell this trip too. And I know from others that even if they have been there several times they lost the first day 2 dives because of this crap **** and they did not get any discount.
I will also refuse to do these dives when I come there again. But I have already been there, so then I expect not needed if they care about customersatisfaction too. But as said, if you want that 2 dives on day 1, it is nice that they offer them. But please don't make them mandatory as you will loose too much divetime without any discount.
Been to Shagra six times. Never seen anyone have to do two orientation dives. Just one. So it is hearsay from your side?

No, it is no hearsay. It was written in our traveldocuments from a dutch travel agency too as required. We said if required, we don't book. So we did not do it.
But I know from others they had to do. And then the first 1 is at 11 and second at 2.
When we came there they tried us also to do that dives, but we said we don't want to. We had to come at 9 for a sort of briefing, but already did 1 dive then and had breakfast.
So no, it is not hearsay, it is what they told us.

If I look now at the website of RSDS, there is written that 1 is still mandatory. So if I will come there again, it is a nogo. I have been there, so know what to expect. And if they want it mandatory, then they have to offer it at 7.30 a.m. and not at 11, then you need to get a big big discount on your first day of diving. As you still miss at least 1 dive.

House Reef Diving Package: 5 days unlimited diving in the house reef including 2 orientation dives on the first day.

  • Includes 12l air and weights
  • Unlimited house reef diving during operational hours
  • House reef zodiacs included
  • The first orientation dive is mandatory, the second is optional but is only offered on the first day
  • Also available to buy house reef diving 'per day' (for less than 5 days diving)
  • Additional days on top of the 5 day package are available at a discounted price
On Bali we also had unlimited diving and solodiving was also allowed. But on the first day they asked us at what time we want to start diving. We could start at 6 a.m.

So there you have it. They offer one extra guided dive if you ask for it—there’s plenty of real estate UW both to the North and to the South, so some might want to start with one in each direction. But as you write — optional.

  • The first orientation dive is mandatory, the second is optional but is only offered on the first day

 Even with only 3 dives a day or more than 2 dives per day of your stay, RSDS has great value for money: 63 EUR per day.
Breakers vs RSDS will depend on how lively you would like it. If you want to meet more people, then Breakers (you may remember the round table for up to 8 persons). RSDS has no night live at all: kind of "lights off at 22:00" location. But hey, what a great opportunity to finally read the books you always wanted to read....
Location wise: ORCA has more dive spots in distance of day trips, RSDS has several great dive spots in Zodiac distance, incl. Elphinstone and 6 house reef profiles, partly with Zodiac.
Hi, I'm planning to 3 days diving at Breakers, then LOB from Hamata, then 3 more days. How does RSDS diving compare to Breakers? I prefer a place that's not totally dead at night, if the diving is similar. Departing via Hurghada, if transport is a factor. Thanks for any advice! 🙏 :thumb:☮️

Well... RSDS is dead at night, really dead.
At the Breakers, you will have some light entertainment now and then. Download the app for up to date information, e.g. Sunset Boat Tour, Full Moon Party, Happy Hour, ....
And it's closer to Hurghada, so you won't have to factor in 2,5 hours by car from RSDS.

BUT, which one has the better, more convenient diving and dive center?
