Best diving destinations?

I'm hopping to find spots that are interesting in and out of the water (so I have a prejudice against purely touristic spots like Urgada or Sharm-el-Sheikh, but maybe I need to be corrected on that.)

I have written about a few of the destinations I went to. I've got articles on my website below. I went to Sharm as well and I went there only for the diving. At night, either did night dives or was resting for the next dive day. So the touristy element of Sharm was not relevant for me.

You can also try a desert dive safari. It's a totally different experience.

Off of Cape Lookout, NC...Charters out of Beaufort and Morehead City...Check out Discoverydiving.com or Olympusdiving.com. Great wrecks and not passed recreational limits...

I know that this post is old but I had to put in that that best diving location that I highly recommend is Venice Louisiana. Visibilitly ranges between o to 12 inches..water is a moderate 68 degrees and you have unlimited botom tim at a max depth of 20 ft. You may ask why this is the best place to dive? here is why,, all expenses paid and you get paid $500.oo and hour to dive there.. 2nd best in my opinion is Roatan Honduras, that is where I spend the money that I earn from the best location..

Coron for WW2 wrecks at recreational depths and Anilao for reefs have been my favorite.

Coron is amazing! Our visit there's what finally pushed my friends and I to learn diving. And Anilao never disappoints :schijnend

There are also diving sites in Pangasinan, but I have yet to see how these fare. Pretty good, they tell me, so I'll have to check it out some day. Anyway, there are a lot of choices if ever you decide to go diving in the Philippines. Enjoy!

Caribbean-Bonaire is going to be your best bet for a new diver

US-toss up, everybody is going to give an opinion, ask someone that has been around a bit, someones opinion that hasn't dove several spots is a bit biased.
If I had to pick a spot in the US I'd say go to Fl. it has quite a bit of variety
