Whoever thinks the Florida Keys has the BEST reef diving... should try drift diving the reefs of S Florida between Jupiter and Ft. Lauderdale. You might change your mind about who has better reefs.

The best fresh water wreck diving is in the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes.

Ah, what about Tobemory? Some great wrecks, good viz (for fresh), and shore diving. Haven't you dove the Bruce penninsula? Close to the U.S. and the water is very clear, about a 3 hour drive into Canada. Nice camping area and hotels as well in Tobemory.

Mantasscareme:
I've never dove with manatees before, but when I think of big animal dives in the US, the manta ray dive in Kona, Hawaii is the first thing that comes to mind for me. http://www.jacksdivinglocker.com/charters2/mantanight.htm

I went to dive with the Mantas on the Big Island with Jacks Dive Locker.......no Mantas I think I should get at least a partial refund, the dives were not that great especially with no Mantas and after all I paid extra for the Manta Dive!
I did however dive with a Manta off Little Cayman once and I was really looking forward to having that same opportunity in Hawaii:06:

They don't guarantee Mantas. Few places do.

I dove that particular site twice, seven mantas the first time and six the second. I for one was not dissapointed by this dive.

Welcome to the board. You really want to start a regional war don't you. :)

Best wrecks- NC for best saltwater wrecks but from what I hear the best preserved ones are in the great lakes
Best reefs- Lower Florida
Best caves/caverns- upper Florida
Best Quarry- Virgina

What quarry are you talking about, Millbrook?

Best Megaladon tooth diving-South Carolina

Ah.... now there's the rub, ain't it?
On any given day I might want to go dive one place over another in America, especially in the winter, when my preferences move south. But I have had remarkable, wonder-filled dives all over, and to make me choose one as "best" is an impossible task.
Today I'd choose Jackson Blue...
Tomorrow may be Panama City or Texas or Pennecamp.
No, now that I think about it, tommorow will be Vortex spring, 'cause that's where I'll be :)
Rick

Rick, what sites do you like in Panama city, I dove the oil tanker and bridge span and they were alright
