There aren't any good dive shops in Key West. Avoid them all. Dive elsewhere.

I went out twice last year with Scuba Shack on Stock Island and was very happy with their service and prices. In February 2010 my son and I had the boat to ourselves for a double dip on the Vandenberg. In June 2010 we returned and there were only two others on the boat as we returned to the Vandenberg for our first dive and then did a reef for our second dive. They also had better prices for Nitrox then anywhere else that I have found in the Keys and they had steel 100s for my son to use on the Vandenberg.

Last year I did the Vandenburg with Dive Key West and I thought they did a great job.

In additions Steve's Mobile Diver Service mentioned above, Captain's Corner runs a better than average operation and boat and has very favorable pricing (I think $55 for a 2-tank trip if you have all your own gear).

I think they run that large steel hulled boat which is painted blue, the " Sea Eagle" its docked in KW by the Conch Replublic Bar [a fun place to be]. The Sea Eagle is the only dive shop operation I have ever seen diving that seamount called the Bar. I think they can only go there when ea diver on their charter has the needed skill level to dive the Bar safely. I saw them doing a drift dive w/their customers on the seamount in sept of 2003 as we were hooking the ScarabCC into an enormous outcropping that day. Waves were 4 ft plus that day , but vis was easily 100ft out in the blue water. I have never dove w/ the Sea Eagle.
I remember that vacation as I had just had a powerhead replaced by Montys Racing motors in Stuart, so I created a " Keys" trip since we needed sea trials on the new engine. Why not test it in Key West.:D:D LOL
