Right now I have an inovative scuba compass that's a piece of sh*#, I can never get an accurate reading and there is no tilt compensator, u tilt it a little and your heading goes way off and the north part of the dial shifts down or up dramatically ..
Anyone try the HOG compass? Or the suunto sk7?
i have my compass wrist mounted on a bungee strap if that helps! Thanks

It's hard to beat the Suunto.

I have two of the HOG compasses I use as loaners for students and one for sale. They work very well. I also have an SK-7 in a DSS mount that I have been using for years now that I am just plain used to and just bought another used one that Jill Heinerth was selling for someone a few months back on a retractor. The SK -7 is hard to beat. The HOG is less expensive and for some people that may be a factor. It will get the job done.

I have a Suunto SK-7 on my console and a Suunto SK-5 on my wrist. I find the SK-7 tends to allow me to get a more accurate reading if i want to know the exact degrees but the SK-5 is alot less picky and is extremely fast to settle on north.

I also find the SK-5 easier to read if I just want to know if im going the right direction and don't need to know my exact bearing in degrees, particually in the dark since its just the north side of the needle and the dots on the bezel that glow so its just a case of getting the long thin glowy bit between the two glowy dots and you know you are going the right way :)

I don't know about you, but the HOG compass looks a lot like the Innovative one. You may have the same problem in that the small dial can't tilt as much as the bigger ones.

I've used Suunto and the Sherwood compass. Both work perfectly well and both have a DSS bungee mount.
I prefer the Sherwood because I like to see less tic marks on my compass dial. It also doesn't sit as tall on your wrist when you're using the DSS mount, compared to the Suunto.

You mean the one I bought at Eddie Bauer at the cash register for $1.99 aint making it? I believe it is sold as a zipper pull.

Damn. No wonder I'm still lost at sea. (not)

Compass is a compass, as long as the operator can read it. No more, no less.
