I just wanted to pop in and say how happy my husband and I were diving with Nicolas from Cenote Experience. I was planning on doing a 'trip report' synopsis of our diving while in Cozumel and the mainland, but I can address our cenote diving here.

Between the diving we did in Coz and the cenotes - the cenotes were the best. A really cool experience and I felt very comfortable with Nico. He was attentive, but not overwhelming. I was really impressed... when I waived the flash light from behind to let him know I was at 2,000 psi, with one swipe up he immediately turned around - he was obviously paying attention. He was soft spoken, but spoke perfect English. I am not sure if it was just the two of us because he was catering to just us, or if he did not have other clients that day - but I loved the fact that it was just the three of us. He pointed out lots of cool stuff and went along at a nice pace.

What ultimately made me decide to dive with him? I sent out about 6 emails to various cenote dive operators - he was the only one who actually answered my questions. Following instructions and meeting the requests of potential clientele ultimately made me feel more comfortable about putting our lives in his hands. Plus the sandwiches and peach juice were good! Alright enough gushing about Nico - email him and say what he has to say. www.cenotexperience.com.mx

We dove both sides of Dos Ojos plus Tajmahl. I liked maybe the first dive of Dos Ojos the best; however the artifacts and saline layer in Tajmahl were very cool - lots of photo opps on all the dives. Like good little touristos we bought the dive DVD at the Dos Ojos site - we actually love it and the pre-made video the guy (not connected with Nicolas) put on the dvd with all the photos is really cool! So don't be cheap - smile for the cave paparazzi and buy the version with the pre-made video. :D

Glad you had a great experience!

That rapid response to a light signal is one of the things that gets trained into us in cave classes. In fact, one can get so sensitive to the lights, that someone fiddling with their gear or otherwise distracted can get a regulator shoved at them! My cave training has made it very difficult for me to dive with people who let lights hang on lanyards and spin :)

Hmmm. I wonder if I actually annoyed him with my bad light handling? Oh well, I am sure he is use to it - I will be more aware in the future. Throw a camera in one hand and all rules are forgotten! I am trying to be better at that; more practice needed!!!

Here's another vote for Nicholas at Cenotexperience. :D We both really enjoyed our dives with him and all his information. Great guy and great, safe guide. :D

We plan to go back down and do the cenotes again but this time for a full week, and we will use Nicholas again.

Haw Haw Haw, Nicolas is an easy going guy, I'm sure you didn't bother him :D

Thanks Lynn for the nice words. I'm getting better about the emails! Well a little bit better. The best thing to do is email info@diablodivers.com because my wife answers those and if she has a question she cannot answer, she hounds me and hounds me and hounds me and then if I still haven't helped she withholds my dinner. I don't need to tell anyone what the next step is!

Trying to pick the best cenote is so difficult because of all the features offered in the different dives. Today I choose a Cenote because it was overcast and grey - Chac Mool. If it was sunny I would have recommended something differrent to suit the level and expectations of my divers. So I recommend to everyone, please don't get caught up in one name versus another - truly all the dive sites are amazing and depending on the person some more than others.

Ja ja ja, you did not bother me with the light, in fact everything was very good that day. Thanks for the nice comments.
See you next time you get around here.
Cheers,

Absolutely! Thanks Nicolas!

How did you get on, Camden? I'm heading out there in January...any tips for me? I'm going to be roughing it a bit, as I always do...travel cheaper, travel longer. So if you found any good, reasonable accommodation in Tulum, please let me know.

.....

The damage to the cenotes is sad, which is why I always discourage brand new divers from doing those dives. Good buoyancy control is a MUST for cenote tours!

......

Please take this advise to heart and and help protect this treasure...really sad to see the piles of broken formations.
