Love my SeaQuest Black Diamond. Several friends love the similar SeaQuest Balance. It just depends on how you evaluate the price/features/comfort/value formula for yourself.

I disagree. What about safety?

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying. Are you saying that some BC's are safe and some are unsafe? If so, which BC's or brands are unsafe? I have always felt that "safety", when it comes to diving, has little to do with your equipment choices (assuming the stuff works) and a lot to do with your mindset or attitude.

To the OP, I would look at the Scubapro Knighthawk or the one I like even better, the Seahawk. Very high quality product.

Out of curiosity, why not a plate? Don't worry, I promise NOT to turn this into the 20 millionth plate vs BC war. I'm just interested in your reasoning.

For the regular commercial lines of back inflate BC's, I like Zeagle. They have great build quality and versatility. They are also "modular" so a more customized fit can be achieved and wings changed.

However, I like the various TransPac, IQ Pack, Apeks WTX, harness rigs. You get a softpack, add the wing of your choice and then have the option of adding a plate, getting a different wing, going to doubles down the road.

My vote would also be for the TransPac. It was the first BC I bought and I still use it on the rare occasions when I dive singles. Some of the Zeagles seem to be nice as do some of the others based on that same design. On the other hand I have seen some that look terribly cluttered but that may just be the way the diver has configured them with weight pockets, knives, snips, air II's, retractors, spare air's, whistles, underwater signaling devices and a partridge in a pear tree. The nice thing about the TransPac vs most of the others is it can easily be configured for doubles which is exactly what I did when I started diving doubles. Gotta say though....bp/w is still the best overall choice in terms of ability to grow with a diver. In addition it allows you to get rid of 6lbs of lead -more if you get a thicker plate.

(one that doesn't leak, the inflator button works properly, & is your correct size :))......that being said, there are way too many to list------You're better off trying some out(your buddies', @ your local LDS, or heck just ordering one online like I did about 4 years ago when I needed a new one)....

Now, if I had to list one I'd give you the name of a Scout by Zeagle, just my own opinion though---& you may or may not like it.......
