Ber, why didn't you have rabbit ears on that helmet?? Nice job and just another great memory for you to tell when your old like me. I don't know if I'd heal after a ride on a bull!!!

LOL! I didn't want to get my ears dirty :D

You're only as old as you think you are and you seem to be in pretty good shape. I bet you could handle one round on an easy bull. Just step off if you don't like how things are going--that's what I did on my first bull. From their website:

Q. Is there an age limit on your schools? When am I too young or old to start?

A. Not really. We limit the age on Jr. Bull Riders to age 13 and under. It's up to you to determine at what age your kids are old enough to learn and be coachable in a particular event. We've had some students at age 7 that were very focused and serious about rodeo. Others weren't really ready for the demands of the sport. It's really like any other sport in that consideration. If you are in doubt I'd suggest you consider the "Ground School" we offer. Anyone can do that at any sessioin location we do!

On the other end of things... we've had male students as old as 65 with one scheduled that is 70 years young. We have many students in their 30's, 40's and 50's. Obviously those older students were at the school for the adventure or with difffernt goals in mind and we made sure it was a great experience. Some were planning on doing the Sr. Pro Tour (age 40 and above with three age divisions) or other regional competition, and others just there for the one time/weekend "Vision Quest" adventure opportunity.

Our oldest female student was in her 50's, and she was amazing both as an athlete and as an intense competitor. We have had females of all ages and, in every event we offer.

Your physical condition and attitude will matter far more than your age.

Thanks everyone, it was a GREAT time! I definitely recommend Sankey Rodeo school if you ever want to get on any kind of bucking stock. I am sooooo tempted to sign up again--I got the fever ;) I just wish I could get the slideshow to open! I'll have to try it at home. The DVD of all the riders in my class arrived yesterday so I'll be able to bring that along to the pumpkin carving--YAY!
Ber :lilbunny:

Sorry, I can't make it to the pumpkin carving this year. Last year was a lot of fun. I have to escort my wife to the Virgin Islands that week:14: I mean.....come on......who wants to leave this great weather we've been having this Fall??:eyebrow:

Looks like she was wearnig a :D Hockey Helmet? Hey Ber way to go riding in the Rodeo, looks like fun.

Yep, that's a hockey helmet. There's no such thing as a bull riding helmet so they use hockey helmets. It IS fun :D

It took an hour for the show to download to my computer at home but I finally got to see it. The guy with the bloody nose (tissue sticking out of it) was wearing a helmet when his bull stepped on the front of his face. The helmet definitely saved him from some SERIOUS injury.

The picture of me is from my very first ride and I'm not actually falling off of that bull. Things weren't going so well after the third jump so I "stepped off" before I fell off. Getting off of a bull is a three step process and SHOULD be done toward your riding hand; look where you want to land, step off with the opposite leg, follow through. Notice "let go of the rope" isn't in there anywhere. When you bring your leg over the bull it pulls your hand out of the rope. The pic shows me looking at my landing spot and starting to bring my left leg over the bulls front end.

I wish I had more pictures but I don't think the ones my sister took came out. I have the rodeo school video now so if anyone has tips for taking still off of a DVD I can get pics.

Thanks CC! Different kind of daredevil; never heard of ANY bull rider ever getting run over in the arena by some idiot on his cell phone :D At least I had bull fighters to get the bulls attention if he tried to run over me.

is the link to the only picture my sister took that came out. The bull is Voodoo and this was my 7th exit of the weekend. This is the one that left the knot on my wrist :D

Wowee! How often can you get out and do this?

Not sure what you mean by the question. The class comes to Hat Creek Arena in Van Wert twice a year, I just went the one time. The arena has bull riding competitions every Sat night from November through May but that's not something I'm participating in.
