Update: Diver airlifted from vessel off Bell Island has died
The 62-year-old diver, who experienced trouble in Lance Cove, off Bell Island, Sunday morning was declared dead a short time later.
A spokesman for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax says the Cormorant and the inshore rescue boat based in the area responded to a call of an unresponsive diver at about 11 a.m. The chopper landed at the Health Sciences Centre helipad at about 11:40 and transferred the patient to a waiting ambulance to be taken to the hospital
The man’s death is not considered suspicious.
The RCMP is continuing its investigation.

A diver who got into trouble in the waters off Bell Island Sunday morning had to be flown by a Search and Rescue cormorant helicopter to the Health Sciences Centre.
A spokesman for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax says the cormorant and the inshore rescue boat based in the area responded to a call of an unresponsive diver at about 11 a.m. The cormorant landed at the Health Sciences Centre helipad at about 11:40 and transferred the patient to a waiting ambulance to be taken to the hospital. The ambulance was followed by a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary vehicle. More details will be released when they become available.
