Thanks Jeff. Have been looking at info on Ambergris Caye. Have I got it right that it isn't very big and basically you pick the hotel that suits your style and budget and then pick the dive op that suits as most dive ops will pick you up at your hotel?

After you've looked at available hotels I'd book pretty soon. You're wanting to come at absolute peak time. Don't expect any bargains - you won't get them at that time of the year - and unless you like being in diver soup arrange diving with an outfit that will give you small groups. Look at reviews here and elsewhere to pin down a few operators. Even at that time of the year you needn't book diving in advance and I certainly wouldn't pay in advance, but you do need to get a room pronto.

Yes - working on it right now. Had decided to leave booking the diving til we get out there. Weather makes a difference - and we like to go and have a look at the dive ops first. That said - many really good reports.

Am I right in thinking that most dives are 15 mins or less on the boat? (Except the obvious Blue Hole etc)

And here's a question I haven't found an answer to on the board. Anyone specialise/particularly good with small stuff?

Most local dives from San Pedro are less then 10 minutes away.

What do you mean "small stuff"? Small critters? Small children? Small groups?

Small stuff - = critters. We dive SE Asia, especially Sulawesi, and it never occurred that small stuff could be anything else. But - small children wriggling around on the bottom sounds like a fun idea. Presumably you would have to tie them to a rock or some weights to keep them down there.

So - my question was - any particular sites good for critters?

Lots of sites are very good for small critters, but you need to be alert to see them. It's big critters that are sometimes a bit hard to come by.

We should be in Ambergris Caye in December. Will be alert for the critters. It's a matter of practice - once you see one thing, then you see them everywhere. But the dive guide in Vietnam who could pick out nudibranchs the size of rice grains - now that was something else!

Thanks for your help Peter.
