Does anyone have information on the dive shop which is on or near Ramon's Village in Belize? I'll be there on March 17, 2007 and need to get in contact with the dive operation down there.

Seadoggirl-

Ramon's has a shop within their complex. I don't know much about them though others have said they are good. I'd Avoid "Aquadives", the diveshop next door at the Sunbreeze Hotel. The hotel is great, but if you follow this board or do a little checking, the reasons will be evident. My wife and I will be on Ambergris the week before you and will be diving with Protech http://www.protechdive.com/. We will be making our 3rd trip in 3 years--for All 3 we have done our diving with Protech. They can pick you up at any dock and would take exceptional care of you. If you want to contact Ramon's, I'd contact the hotel directly. Their diveshop is "part" of the hotel and doesn't have an independant entity. If you are interested in contacting Protech, send Peter Jones an email. peterbj7@gmail.com He is the owner and could coordinate any arrangements you might need. He also hangs out on this board as Peterbj7. Take care, I'll try to keep the winds away prior to your arrival. :42: Ken

Great and thanks. I did find a contact at the dive shop after this post. I'm also looking for any fun non-diving activities. Since ya'll have been three times, is there anything that we shouldn't miss? Thanks again

I'd Rent a golf cart, then eat, drink, and explore both North and South, Most the non-diving "real" activities are on the mainland (Cave/River Floats, Mayan ruins, Manatees etc.).

i stayed there in 2003, and actually did my open water certifaction there as well. the dive operation on-site is just called "Ramon's Village", and i though it was excellent. it is one of only a couple of PADI 5 star resorts on Ambergris. i have seen mixed reviews about the hotel, but from my experience it was fine (albeit 4 years ago). we had a lot of wind, so couldn't do as much diving as i would have liked. going back again in May.

In terms of top-side activities, i thought the day trip to Lamanai was excellent.

Please post when you get back from Ramons. I am going on my honeymoon in April and would love to hear what you think. I have been told to use ramons dive shop or Amigos del mar. This came from my LDS and former divers.

Ramons has there own dive center which you can reach via the resort, if you have questions about there diving ask for Rick he is the Manager of the dive center.
good luck and have fun
