Trying to book our spring break trip for my wife, two teenage boys and are thinking Belize or Grand Cayman. Costs for hotel, diving, food are a factor. Also, do either of these have good shore diving? What would the weather be like (last week of March)? Non diving activities?

Recommendations for dive operators and hotels would be great.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Don't know about Belize, but Grand Cayman is an excellent choice for a family get away and pretty much the best diving experience I've had. The reefs and aquatic life are unbeliveable. We stayed at the Marriott Beach resort and for Diving I would recommend Ambassadors diving. Jason will come to pick you up at the Hotel and bring you back every day. Jason is on Scubaboard and has a facebook site

or his web site
Ambassador Divers Ltd., Grand Cayman Exceptional scuba diving in the Cayman Islands
Which ever site you choose have a great vacation

Thank you! I checked out Ambassador Divers website and have asked them to send info on their Summer Splash program where kids dive free. That would make that part of the trip a lot cheaper. Too bad airlines don't do that!

Belize does not have shore diving, but would be less expensive overall than Grand Cayman. Belize has more "natural" types of topside activities - jungles, river tours, Mayan ruin tours, caves, zip lines, etc. GC has more tourism focused on non-divers and also lots of cruise ships and crowds.
I think teens would enjoy Belize more....

Look at Ambergris Caye, Belize

My kids have been diving for six years.

Having said that - they loved inland Belize and would go back in a heartbeat.

Diving better in Caymans - no shore diving in Belize - Belize significantly less expensive.

I've only been to Grand Cayman. You may be blown out of the North Wall during Spring Break, I have been. The West walls and diving are not a bad alternative. There's not that much to do on Grand Cayman but the diving, I would take that into consideration. There is very good shore diving on Grand Cayman, Cobalt Coast, Lighthouse Point, Turtle Reef...

Best of luck in your vacation choice.

Good diving, Craig

I can recommend Grand Cayman also. You may want to consider Sunset House and Sunset Divers. My wife and I have dove with Sunset House and we had an absolutely fantastic time. The nice thing about it is everything is right there at your fingertips. Morning two tank boat dives every day and all the shore diving we could do. They really do cater to the diver, hence their saying a dive resort for divers, by divers. When we were there we dove a lot with the staff that works there so we got to know them pretty well. Really friendly folks who showed us a great time, they even took us out to some local places that were not overly expensive and a blast to hang out at. Give them a call and ask for Dee, I am sure you won't be disappointed.

Belize outer atolls not Ambergris. Ambergris diving is not as good. Atolls are mostly quite time on beach and GREAT diving. Spend some time in the Jungle doing tours, Tikal and other runis and such (separate hotel). Jaguar Paw is very nice for caving, jungle tours, and such It is about a 90 min ride from Belize City.

Great value and some very good diving.

Grand Cayman is very expensive. Not good value for the dollar, but above average Caribbean diving.
