During our annual trip to Cozumel we are think of checking out Belize for a few days. Any recommendation on travel arrangements from Cozumel to Belize. We have the time since we are staying a month this time.

When I went from belize to cozumel earlier Thai year I took the ADO bus and that seemed to work well. You could catch one of these from playa del carmen down to either belize city or chattumel, and the take either the water ferries or local belize buses from there

The Other option would be to catch a flight from cancun to belize city and head out from there, I can't remember if it is maya air or tropic air which is offering these flights

Tropic - Tropic Air

1) On your last dive day in Cozumel, bring all your luggage aboard your dive boat and about 100 gallons of fuel.
2) Hijack said dive boat and head south, offering to drop off crew and fellow divers off along the way if they don't feel like visiting Belize.
3) In Belize City, sell dive boat to the first seedy character you encounter (lots of them around in Belize City) and use proceeds to pay for hotel, lobster dinners, local flights, and souvenirs.

I don't guarantee that the above will work for you but it's always worked for me every time I've tried it.

I would add: step 2.5, enroute stop and dive Chinchorro

Tropic air round trip from Cancun to Belize International is over $550 pp. No way I'm going to pay that much. How long of a bus ride is it??

Yeah, it's take at least 2 hours to get to Cancun and check-in. It's only a 4 to 4
½ hour ride from PDC to Chetumal for 300 pesos/$20½ USD, then a another 2 or 3 to Belize City. There are areas in Mexico close to the US border that I wouldn't want to risk it, but this sounds safe & easy enough.

Looks like they have buses going all hours day & night. Here's their schedule: Lo sentimos, intente de nuevo - ADO I used Google translate to make most of it in English.

It was on overnight trip going from belize city to playa del carmen, believe it was something like 6-8 hours
How long did it take to cross the border? I've heard there was a challenge there, but that was years ago. Sounds like it was easy enough.

I'd rather go in daytime for the scenery.

Short version from a 2012 post on CmyC by Steve. He doesn't dive but writes great trip reports... he did a whole trip report on his trip but I can't find that right now. I'm sure prices have changed but info is the same. Good websites on the water taxis above. It behooves you to get on the ADO bus that will arrive in time to then catch a water taxi.

You can take a bus from Playa to Chetumal for around $560 pesos. Take a cab from the (Chetumal) bus station to the pier $50 pesos, then a water taxi over to Ambergris $300 pesos. Bus is around 4 hours and water taxi is around 2 hours.

You clear customs at the pier in Chetumal than again when you arrive in Ambergris.

The exchange rate is $2 Belize for $1 US.

Water taxi from Ambergris to Caye Caulker is between $25 and $30 Belize and takes about 25 minutes.

Lots of restaurants, bars, and shops on both islands.

Here is a good forum I go to if you want to do a little research on Belize:
