HI. We are planning a trip to Belize to dive and relax. We're interested in staying at either Ramon's Village or The Lodge at St. George's due to the fact that they both seem remote and have individual cottages over the water which is what we really want. We also want the diving to be great wherever we go, so if anyone has any advice for any resorts with individual cottages over the water and great diving that would be very helpful!! Thanks so much!

Ramon's Village isn't remote. Pictures make it look so, but in reality it sits right on the edge of San Pedro. There are a lot of other lodging facilities on Ambergris that are more remote--and a better bargain. Here's the map:

and here's the lodging:

Enjoy the research. I did. Ken :42:

I spent the last 2 weeks of June and the first week of July in Belize last year. Got to spend a lot of time at Ramons and they are not remote on AC and do not have any rooms over the water. Ramon's is a great resort with one of the nicest beaches on AC. The dive op is good and there is decent snorkling at the end of their pier, but remote it's not.

If you want remote on AC go north of the cut past Capt Morgan's or south to Victoria House, but none of the hotel/resorts on AC have rooms over the water.

Good luck and enjoy your stay in Belize with whatever you decide, it's a wonderful place. This link might help: http://www.ambergriscaye.com/

hey,
if you really want great diving and want to be over the water, why don't you go on a liveaboard? nekton cruises has an excellent liveaboard that visits all of the best diving in belize. and they have the great swath design that keeps the ship very stable so you don't have to worry about getting seasick. it's money well spent! i hope this helps.

Have a look at our General Central and South America forum for more info...

Moved from Introductions & Greets forum.

just saw a show on Fine living last night about Caye Espanto which is only a couple of miles off SP but looks amazing - rooms right over the water !!http://www.aprivateisland.com/

just looked at the rates - it's definately in the "luxury" price band!!!

Wow, I was checking out the link to Cayo Espanto & it looks amazing! I love the private picnic. They give you their cell phone to call for the boat to come back & get you.
I was totally going to keep this place in mind, for a future romantic dive trip...until I saw the price.
Oh yeah, at $1000.+ per night, I'd say that is luxury.
