If you have access to a known good one, test yours; the absolute accuracy is not very critical. Mines are fairly consistent.
Beware that a gauge plus the fittings may cost you as much as a ready to use one at Scubatools.

I do alot of servicing in my garage and have many of those tools. One thing that you want to invest in as a beginner is a good Jeweler's Loupe. The good folks at Bausch and Lomb make some quality units. You would be surprised what will get past the fingernail method when you looking at a piston, etc.
