Hey gang,

I just got me a new A720is with underwater case. I am a total beginner and will be experimenting on my upcoming dives off Catalina as well as in Hawaii with my new camera.

Any setting suggestions that can help would be great. For instance should I be using the underwater setting or is there a better setup that I can program in?

Have you checked out the Sticky at the top of the UW Photo area (you can get there via the Pink Link in my signature)? Inside are all sorts of tips and pointers that have been collected from ScubaBoard members in one easy to find location. There are some excellent getting started points there that should go a long way to setting you on the right path.

Have fun!

Although I shoot the A570IS, they are virtually the same camera(in operation)...The following is what I recommend(& copied it off another response to someone asking similar questions)......good luck & be sure & get back with us on your shots.....

"Here you go, ............I shoot my A570 on Av & leave the ISO on 80 all the time(the lowest it has)......so basically all I'm changing is the F-stop, start @ about 5 & go down to about 2.8? when & if I get a chance to bracket......Try to use macro all the time & flash unless I'm shooting toward the surface or near the surface where I take advantage of ambient lite and use no flash at all.....The only time I'll change from this is when shooting silhouettes(directly into the sun) & I'll put my F-stop as high as the camera goes, I think around 8 something(don't have the camera in front of me)----in the old days, used F-22 on my 35 mm S&S MM II.....

btw, I use no strobe(in the below pictures), only the camera's internal flash........good luck......also, alcina gave me most of this info....try to find one of her posts here on SB, she's got alot more info in her sig & remember---she's the Canon guru here, if she speaks, you listen.........GEAUX TIGERS....."

Thanks everyone this is great, and no i didnt see the link Alcina but now I do and will utilize it.

You can also do a Search on Scubaboard for A720 and A570 (they are quite similar) and you will find lots of posts from other owners about using those 2 cameras and also links to pictures posted by the same folks.

Enjoy the new toy :-)
